Do Private Schools Require Teachers to Be Certified

Teaching can be a rewarding experience, and talented teachers are in high demand. But, some people are deterred from this career choice because they didnt pursue an education degree or arent certified to teach. But, did you know that not every school requires certification to teach? Its true, and private schools in particular often place a high value on professionals who have work experience and can share their knowledge and experience with eager learners. Private Schools That Dont Require Certification Many private schools value degrees in related fields, work experience, knowledge, and natural teaching abilities over a certification. Its true that it does vary from school to school, but many private schools look beyond the teaching certificate or degree in education. A school will make it clear if certification is required — and even if a private school requires certification, you may be hired provisionally if the school feels you can meet the state certification eligibility requirements within a reasonable length of time.   Most private schools require evidence of a bachelors degree and a background check before approving a new hire, and masters degrees and doctorates are highly desired. But, apart from those requirements, what a private school is really looking for are teachers who can inspire students and bring great experience to the classroom. Research has shown that good teachers are often professionals blessed with superb verbal abilities. Put another way, they know how to communicate their subject extremely well. That has little or nothing to do with certification. Coming in right behind superb verbal abilities is the experience. A private school  will value these attributes far more than teacher training or education courses alone. Are Certified Teachers Better Teachers? According to the Abell Foundations report Teacher Certification Reconsidered: Stumbling For Quality, there is inconclusive evidence that certified teachers are more effective in the classroom. Teacher certification is a concoction of the political-educational establishment to protect, shield, and justify the inadequacies of public education. After all, the state education office only looks at transcripts  and required courses to determine if certification standards have been met — it never actually watches a teacher teach. This is why private schools value a teacher who is passionate about his or her subject more than they value teachers who are certified to teach a subject. Yes, the private school headmaster  will look at your transcripts, but what they will really focus on is results and your ability to be a great teacher. Are you inspiring your students? Are they excited about learning? Is a Degree Important? You have to know your subject, obviously, but believe it or not, your degree doesnt have to perfectly align with the subject. Most upper schools will value strong tertiary level credentials highly. A masters or a doctorate in your subject is an excellent door-opener at these elite educational institutions. However, many seasoned professionals have degrees that dont relate to the subjects they intend to teach. A history teacher with a math degree isnt the norm, but it has happened. Schools want to know that you have a superior mastery of the subject at hand, and work experience can go a long way.   While it may seem odd to possess a degree that doesnt directly relate to what you intend to teach, the rapid changing of todays industries and skillsets make it a necessity for private schools to be progressive about their hiring. Many graduates with humanities degrees have found themselves in the technology industry, which may have them working in a number of fields with a wide variety of experiences. Schools will look to hire professionals with degrees, yes, but they also want to see that you have something to bring to the classroom. Coding, software development, technical writing, research, website development, and marketing are just a few examples of non-traditional subjects that schools are teaching today, and your talents of actually working in these industries and ability to share those talents with students may give you the edge on someone who possesses a degree in that subject but doesnt have real-world experience.   Getting a Private School Teaching Job If you want to increase the likelihood of getting hired, research specialty programs. The ability to teach Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate level courses is also another big advantage. While you likely wont get training until youre actually hired, familiarity with these programs shows that youre ready to embrace a specific style of teaching. In academia, a bachelors degree is only the first step in your educational journey. Many schools value masters and doctoral degrees as further proof that you have mastered your material. Private schools often provide tuition assistance to help you further your education, too, so if youre interested in going back to school, let the hiring committee know.   Special education, guidance counseling, curriculum development, digital media, website developing, coding, vocational education, media specialist — these are just a handful of specialist areas which are much in demand. While not in the same league with a terminal or a masters degree, subject certification shows that you have explored methodology and current practice in your area in some depth. Assuming you keep those certificates updated, you will contribute to your chosen academic community and can increase the chances that you will be an asset to a schools academic curriculum.   The Importance of Technology Experience Using a tablet, PC, and an electronic whiteboard effectively are essential skills in the classroom these days. Communicating via email and instant messaging are givens. Private schools have been in the vanguard of educational technology since the mid-1990s. Understanding how to use technology effectively in your teaching is not something certification has even begun to address and measure. Teaching Experience Helps If you have taught for three to five years, then you have worked out most of the kinks. You understand classroom management. You have figured out how to truly teach your subject. You can connect with your students. You have learned how to communicate with the parents. Experience counts far more than certification as a rule. This can come in the form of a teaching internship, grad school teaching assistant, or even involvement in programs like Teach for America. Monsters, the creatures of the night who prey on our fear. The ones who have no sense of emotion and lack the ability to show remorse. The big, the bad, and the ugly that lurks within all of us. I will do this by using the three key questions stated below: 1. There is a main road going through Epping Forest on the A104 and on the m25. You can drive through on the A104 on Wan stead or the m11 from Woodford and you can also catch the train from there. (The map above is taken from the website of Epping Forest (www.eppingforest.co.uk). Before 1878, they used the forest to bury dead people, timber, farming, hunting, visiting and camping. They also used to cut the trees every fifteen years to make them grow bigger and healthier. (Trees are still being cut nowadays) There are two ways of cutting the trees: Copping and Pollarding. Copping The above diagram shows: that the tree was cut from the bottom so that it can provide more stems and so it looks bigger. Pollarding The above diagram shows that the tree was cut from the top, so it can provide more stems and looks much bigger. The day we went was very wet, therefore it was very muddy as well as very cold. The view was beautiful, but the atmosphere felt a bit eerie to me after being told to be careful of falling trees! We were told that the trees were falling because they were getting too old. Fishing, running, bike riding and feeding ducks (a great entertainment for little kids) is what attracts visitors most to Epping Forest. The forest is used for recreation by people walking, admiring the beauty of nature, by going to the pubs, riding horses, having picnics out in the sun and watching the fantastic firework display (in October). On the day we went to the forest, we carried out a number of surveys (the surveys were carried out for us to find out more about Epping Forest). They were: * Conversation and recreation * Management of the Epping Forest * Evaluation of public pressure impact * People and car counts Conservation and recreation survey; It was a bout recording the percentage of the species. We had to record the tallest plant in (cm). We also had to use the Epping Forest’s Tramping scale, to score a value between (1-6) for each quadrat. Management of the Epping Forest survey; For the management, we had to record the recreations scores and the environment scores using the numbers (3, 2, 1, 0,-1,-2,-3) for Pillow Mounds and Robin Hood Green. Evaluation of public pressure for impact survey; It was about the feature of trees (how well or bad they looked), we had to circle these numbers (3, 2, 1, 0, -1, -2, -3) if it was positive or negative, we had to use these numbers for Pillow Mounds and Robin Hood Green. People and car counts survey; We had to count how many cars, lorries and vans go into Epping Forest as well as leaving it. Using my own research, I will be able to find out the answers to my 3 key questions. To do that I will be using text books in the school library, central library, the internet and by seeking information from my teacher as well our surveys that we did when we went to Epping Forest Key Question 1 – â€Å"What are the effects of visitors on Epping Forest?† Visitors to Epping Forest Centre 1995. The highest amount of people that visited Epping Forest were 4023 in October 1878, this was because they visited throughout the summer and autumn, people went to pubs, ride horses, had picnics and watch the fantastic fire work display (in October). The least amount of visitors that visited Epping Forest were 739 people in December because, it was winter. The view was beautiful but the atmosphere was very cold. The effects of visitors on Epping Forrest Variety of Vegetation cover. (Quadrat survey) The divided bar graphs show that Robin Hood Green has a greater variety of vegetation cover than Pillow Mounds. Pillow Mounds however has fine grass and more bare ground, than Robin Hood Green. This could be the reason for the vegetation differences. At Robin Hood Green there is less fine grass (49%) and more broad leaf grass (24%). The remaining area has bracken (1%), mass (6%), leaf litter (4%) bare ground (16%) and young tree (1%). There is a lot fine grass at Pillow Mounds, because it is more resistant to tramping. Broad leaf grass dies more easily with tramping, but it is allowed to flourish at Robin Hood Green where less people go. In Robin Hood Green there is not a lot of surface erosion, this is because there are few litter bins. The air pollution is clean. There is a lot of traffic. It is not noisy because, there are a few people. Also a lot of developments are taking place. In Pillow Mound there is erosion. The air pollution is clean, not a lot of traffic and there is also a huge amount of noise and people around. Few developments are also taking place. Tallest plants Robin Hood Green Pillow Mounds I had found out the two tallest plants in Robin Hood Green and Pillow Mounds while I was doing my variety of vegetation cover one of them was 20cm and the other one 30 cm. Key question2- â€Å"How is the forest being managed and what are the effects of this management?† It is important to manage the Epping Forest by the wooden pillars that are put up on the road side. There are logs topers to stop cyclists because, cyclists damage the vegetation and fritting the horses. The gates that were surrounding the visitor’s center were put there to make the visitor’s center look beautiful. As I can see there are not a lot of people who park their cars on the road or through the forest this is because, there are ditches next to the park so cars can not go through the forest. There is a lot of litter bins in Pillow Mounds but there are a few in Robin Hood Green this is because they want to decorate the forest with less bins â€Å"I find that less litter bins are not good for the environment, because litter bins can get full easily and if someone wants to throw rubbish in it will fall on the ground; creating more rubbish.† There are by-law signs, so people know what is going on in the forest. There are horse riders in Pillow Mounds and Robin Hood Green which also damages the forest. That is because the horses walk into vegetation and also make erosion. The fences were put in Robin Hood Green and Pillow mounds because it would help the cattles to survive. The tea huts in Robin Hood Green and Pillow Mounds are coloured green. This has a very good effect on the visitors, by making them feel that even if they go and have a cup of tea, they are still in the forest. It looks very good; as if the tea huts are trees or plants that were not known before just because of its colours. There is an information center, where visitors can ask and find out any help which they might need. Footpaths are there so we can walk on them instead of tramping on the vegetation. There are also toilets to execrate waste because if we use the forest as toilets, by then the forest will be damaged. The equipment that we used were a quadrat 2*30tape. My second survey was the management of Epping Forest; we used a work sheet and a pen, which we used to fill our options in. My third survey public pressure impact, we used the work sheet and the pen, and we had to fill in our opinions. It was raining our worksheet got wet, so we had to hide it from the rain. My results might differ from those results which are obtained at a different time of the day, or at a different time of the year; this is because different people are found at different times. We can try and make the results as fair as possible, by going to Epping Forest once a week or once a month, our overall average results differ from our own results because using a quadrat makes it slightly different. For example; I might put the quadrat slightly in a different place or in a different way. Discussions on the change request: Once the request documents are available to the higher management associated with the project, the project manager starts reviewing the requests made an the expected outcomes of the same. Besides this, the project manager also takes into account the extent to which the project team has proceeded with the project activities and the extent to which the said progress would be hampered in case the requested changes are incorporated. The review of the above mentioned factors would lead to the finalization of the change requests that can possibly be considered. Once this particular task is completed, the entire project team would start working on the budgetary and resource calculation aspects of the project, so as to highlight the additional budget, resources an time required for incorporating the changes. Detailed records regarding these requirements would then be submitted to the client for the final approval on these change requests. In case the changes are approved by the client and the project sponsor, information regarding the same is shared with all members of the project team. On the other hand, in case the change proposals are dismissed, the information is passed on to that particular stakeholder who raised the change request at the first place. Change implementation: This is the final phase of the change management phase, which is conducted only in case the change requests raised by the stakeholder are approved from the client end. The implementation of the approved changes would be conducted through the following phases: Phase 1: Preparation for change implementation: The strategies and processes to be utilized in the implementation of the change has to be identified, along with the development of the plans required for implementing the same. b. Phase 2: Managing the change: In this phase, the strategic plan develop for the implementation of the change would be shared with the members of the change management team, for the purpose of appropriate implementation of the same. Phase 3: Reinforcing the change: In this phase of the change management process, the project manager would collect feedback from the team members regarding the change, such that success of the change can be observed from the perspective of the team mates along with the identification of any resistance to the same. Based on the information collected from the feedbacks, corrective measures would be taken so as to fill up the gaps in the change management process and to manage the resistance effectively. Communication with Stakeholders The stakeholders associated with the project have been outlined in following table, along with the methods and techniques to be followed in communicating with them. According to researchers Mir and Pinnington (2014), the project closure phase is essentially the last stage of any project activity. The following steps would follow during the project closure phase of the project under consideration: Contract closure: The contracts with the project sponsor, client and the vendors have to close. Verification of scope requirements: The primary aim of the project is to deliver such ICT system to the client that meets all the specific requirements documented in the project charter. Thus, it is essential that the client verifies that the product delivered meets all the requirements included in the scope document and acknowledges the same. Development of project reports: The final reports of the project have to documented in this phase and archived in a proper manner, such that the references to the same can be easily made in future. Conducting post project review: A post project review has to be conducted and the same has to be submitted to the client end.
